Kamakshi Devi is defined as the Supreme God of Beauty and Tranquillity. Mother is a personification of the goddess Shakti. As Lord Shivas’ wife, She is known as Kamakshi in Southern India and Kamakhya in the East. The name signifies the desirous or literally the one whose eyes are filled with desire. Shiva, opened His 3rd eye to destroy Kama, the God of Love. What Shiva destroys and resists eventually becomes his better half – suddenly! It is believed that Kamakshi annihilated the devil who was born from the ashes of Kama.
